This blog was developed and curated by Ms. Kulsum Fatima, a doctoral candidate at SAPL, UCalgary to highlight issues related to her doctoral research in water management, with a particular focus on achieving the NetZero water scenario at Higher education Institutions. Several components are included in her research, including a framework for performance assessment and a framework for water literacy assessment at UCalgary main campus. Overview
This blog introduces the concept of Water Literacy, provides information about the designed experiential learning resources, ongoing research activities and teaching & learning approach specific to UCalgary campus. It also highlights Parallel concepts including water planning, water crisis, water leadership, concept of virtual water, etc. This blogs intend to explain and explore the Water-People Connection and the connection between Water literacy and United Nations Sustainable Development (UN SDG6).
Background
A major portion of this research is based on the concept of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), also known as One Water, which is an approach to managing water that looks holistically at the planning and management of water supply, wastewater, and stormwater systems. IWRM focuses on the water cycle as a single connected system and promotes coordinated development and management of water, land, and related resources to maximize the economic and social benefits while minimizing impacts on the environment.
